Sometimes life grows dark enough that we begin to wonder whether God has forgotten us. Our thoughts can turn against us, and trouble can make us feel alone. Yet Romans 8 gives us something solid to hold onto: if God gave His own Son for us, then we can know that He truly loves us. The cross is proof that God is for us.
Even when suffering comes, we are not separated from His love. Trouble, loss, fear, disappointment, and even death cannot pull us away from God. Hard things are part of life in a broken world, but they do not mean God has abandoned us. We can walk through deep valleys knowing that He is still near and that nothing can separate us from His love in Christ.
There is even more comfort in knowing that we are not walking alone. Jesus is at the Father’s right hand praying for us. The Holy Spirit also helps us when we are weak, even when we do not know what to pray. When all we have are groans and tears, God understands them. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all working for us.
At the same time, God does not promise that everything happening to us will be good. Instead, He promises to work through everything for our lasting good. His purpose is not simply to make life easy or keep us happy. He is shaping us into the likeness of Jesus. Even suffering can become part of that work as He slowly restores us into the people He created us to be.
So when we ask, “Is God for us?” the answer is yes. He gives His Son for us, Jesus intercedes for us, the Spirit helps us, and the Father works through our lives for good. We may still groan beneath the weight of this world, but we do not groan without hope. God loves us, God is with us, and God is for us.
