In this sermon, we delve into the vision and mission of the church. Sometimes we lose sight of what the church is meant to be, which can lead to hurt and confusion within the church community.
We tend to associate vision with big programs and corporate terms, but the vision and mission of the church should be more organic and grassroots. The church is made up of people, and it is where we live, work, and interact with others that the mission of the church takes place. Only a small percentage of our time is spent in a church service on Sundays, so the majority of the mission happens outside of the church building.
The church should resemble an organic happening, naturally developing and growing over time without being forced or planned by anyone. While there is a place for committees and boards, much of the mission of the church should occur organically, reflecting the individual contributions of its members.
The church is the body of Christ, where each member plays a unique role and contributes to the overall functioning of the body. Instead of glorifying the prominent parts, we need to recognize the value of every individual and their contribution to the mission.
We should not let religious duties or church responsibilities hinder the mission of the church, for the mission of the church should always come first.
The church should provide support and encouragement for those who are hurting, serving as a hospital and a clinic for weary souls. We are called to carry one another’s burdens and be there for those in need.
The church should also be a lighthouse for the shipwrecked, shining the light of Christ and reflecting His love to a world in need.
The church service is like a huddle, a place to be equipped and encouraged for the rest of the mission. However, the service itself is not the end goal, but a fueling station for the real game of life that happens outside of the church walls.
The responsibility for the vision and mission of the church falls on all believers, not just the leadership. We are all called to contribute to the work of the church and be the hands and feet of Jesus, embodying His love and grace in our daily lives.
Let us embrace the organic mission of the church and be actively involved in bringing healing, hope, and love to those around us.
